How is AURS unique?
A unique feature of AURS
is that each symposium is entirely run by undergraduates with strong
support from faculty, institutions, companies, and foundations.
This provides undergraduates with valuable leadership opportunities in
addition to demonstrating community support for undergraduate research.
We emphasize professionalism at our event with required business attire, a white tablecloth banquet, awards ceremony, and a
professional venue. AURS symposia also facilitate networking
between students from different regions, allowing
an exchange of ideas across scientific fields. Moreover, each
event allows companies engaged in scientific research and graduate
schools to recruit bright, motivated students.
How do I get involved with the AURS board or an individual symposium's
board?
If you are a highly
motivated student who can help us expand to other regions, we would love
to have you join us on AURS. Please contact us at
contact@aursociety.com.
If you would like to join an individual symposium's board, you will need
to contact them. Look on our
Regional Symposia page to
visit each symposium's webpage.
Who
can participate in an AURS symposium? Who can attend?
Any undergraduate of the
participating AURS institutions who has been conducting a
faculty-mentored research project is eligible to submit an application
and abstract to present at their regional symposium. Everybody
is welcome and encouraged to attend. Please visit an
individual symposium's page for more details.
I have a specific question about my project for a symposium. Who
do I contact?
You will need to contact
the symposium's Inter-School Board. Look on our
Regional Symposia page to
visit each symposium's webpage.
Are you affiliated with the National Council on Undergraduate Research (NCUR)?
Though we both promote
undergraduate research, AURS
and NCUR are not affiliated with each other. AURS helps create and oversee
regional symposia while NCUR sponsors a national conference for
undergraduates engaged in scientific research.
How did the AURS get started?
AURS was started by
Chandler Robinson at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL in 2004.
I still
have an unanswered question. Who do I contact?
We would love to hear
from you! Please contact us at
contact@aursociety.com or
email us individually here.
