The mission of the
American Undergraduate Research Society (AURS) is to encourage and
promote undergraduate scientific and engineering research through the
joint efforts of many of the top research universities across the
country. It aims to bring together undergraduates at those universities
who are interested in science and engineering research to give them an
opportunity to share their research ideas and accomplishments with
others in annual regional interdisciplinary research symposia. At each
symposium, the best undergraduate student presentations are awarded
either scholarships or travel grants to national and international
meetings of professional societies. In addition, those faculty members
of the participating universities whose contributions best encourage and
support undergraduate research are recognized. In doing so, AURS helps
stimulate greater interest in independent learning and discovery at the
undergraduate level which goes beyond the typical classroom environment.
Across the country, the
AURS regional symposia provide many undergraduates with greater
opportunities to present their research results in a professional
setting and to compete for research scholarships and travel grants. They
also allow students to network and collaborate with other students,
faculty, and participating corporations and to learn more about the
numerous career prospects in the sciences and engineering.
On behalf of the AURS,
all the participating universities, and our sponsors, I would like to
thank you for taking part in our society. I hope you find your regional
symposium to be a very valuable, informative, and rewarding experience.
Sincerely,

Chandler Robinson
President and Founder of AURS
